AMD SocketA CPU Guide

SocketA processors released from AMD is as follows.

SocketA processor [ 130nm Process - 462 pin ]

These CPU is manufactured from 0.13-micron copper process in Fab 30 of Dresden.

32bit processors

  • 10/09/2003 : AMD Athlon XP 2400+
Mobile Athlon XP-M [ Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M Processor Model 10 ] OPN
Mobile Barton

Because being controlled by PowerNow! is assumption in the Athlon XP-M, the start up multiplier is 6X. Moreover, the rated voltage cannot be correctly recognized with a general mother board.

As for present CPU, the start up multiplier is fixed. However, the multiplier changing function is effective in the Mobile CPUs.

  • Designed for Notebooks.
  • FSB : 266MHz

Sempron [ AMD Sempron Processor Model 8 ] Sempron
sempron

The performance of Sempron is quite the same as AthlonXP because of the product that changes the name from AthlonXP. However, the start multiplier is fixed because of the release time.

  • Designed for Desktop PC.
  • FSB : 333MHz
  • Frequency : 1500MHz to 2000MHz

Mobile Athlon XP-M [ Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M Processor Model 8 ] OPN
  • The performance of this CPU is almost the same as Athlon XP for desktop. Because being controlled by PowerNow! is assumption in the Athlon XP-M, the start up multiplier is 6X or 5X. The multiplier changing function is effective in this Mobile CPU.However, it is not supported in a general mother board.
  • Designed for Thin & Light Notebooks.
  • FSB : 200MHz, 266MHz
  • Frequency : 1200MHz to 2133MHz

Athlon MP [ AMD Athlon MP Processor Model 8 ]
  • Athlon MP is a product for the multiprocessor equipped with 256K L2. FSB is 266. TDP is 60W. It seems to be also possible to use Sempron, Athlon XP-M, and Geode NX instead of Athlon MP.
  • FSB : 266MHz
  • Frequency : 1667MHz to 2133MHz

Geode NX [ AMD Geode NX Processor Model 8 ] Geode NX
Geode NX
  • The package and the specification are similar to Mobile Athlon XP-M. Therefore, the start multiplier is 6X, and FSB is 266. Because the operation voltage of Geode NX 1500 is a very low 1.25V, Fan less is also possible.
  • Very low core voltage
  • Geode NX 1500 1.0GHz 1.00v TDP9W
  • Geode NX 1750 1.4GHz 1.25v TDP25W
  • Geode NX 2001 is here

Duron 64K L2 Cache [ AMD Duron Processor Model 8 with 64K L2 Cache ] OPN

Socket563 Athlon XP-M [ AMD Athlon XP Processor Model 10 ] OPN
Package Type: uOPGA563

Package type G shows the organic micro pin grid array package of 563pin. Because it is small CPU for note PC package, it is not replaced with socket A CPU. Besides this, the Thoroughbred version is shipped.

SocketA processor [ 180nm Process - 462 pin ]

The Thunderbird is a development code of the processor released to the first stage of SocketA. Afterwards, architecture was changed from the release of Mobile Athlon 4. The development code of new architecture was called The Palomio. This Palomio is a starting point of present Athlon XP.
